The Golden Spiral of Traditional Food (Aug 2010)

By Steve Gagnè

The chart displayed is a representation of dietary proportions roughly based on the well known mathematical model called “The Golden Rectangle".

This fascinating geometric as been called by many other names in different parts of the world and different historical epochs. The spiral has often been termed the “universal master form,” and has long been revered as a sacred symbol of life, death, and transformation.

Found abundantly throughout nature in both the plant and animal realms, manifestations of the spiral with its logarithmic progressions have been represented in the arts and sciences of every culture, from the most primitive to the most advanced.

It is in the logarithmic spiral that we find a consistent thread of knowledge linking the beliefs and lifestyles of the great ancient civilizations through art, architecture, astronomy, engineering – and even agriculture, pastoralism and food production.

Whether in India, China, the Middle East, the Far East, Africa, North or South America, the study of traditional foods reveals a dietary pattern based on a remarkable consistent wisdom of sensibility, practicality and proportion.

On the surface, these traditions are characterized by obvious cultural diversity; thus one part of the world may include cereals of a particular species, while elsewhere another species takes precedence. The same holds true for vegetables, animal products, beans, seeds and nuts, dairy products etc. Yet there is an underlying consistency – one is tempted to say uniformity – in the basic proportions of food groups each culture has used to feed its people.

There are, of course, broad differences based on climate and terrain. Coastal peoples naturally consumed more fish and seafood than the inland people, who consumed more fowl and mammal products. Yet as fundamentally agricultural people, both groups consumed animal products overall in a roughly equivalent proportion to all other foods.

While ruling classes often exercised the exclusive rights of the wealthy to adjust these proportions for their personal use, the general proportions were maintained among traditional people just as they are today. Some non-agricultural people represent exceptions to the principles due to environmental factors or simply because of the fact that they do not practice agriculture. However, even among many hunter-gatherers these proportions of higher quantities of plant foods with smaller portions of animal products are the norm.

Golden Ration, Golden Age

It is my experience that a diet of traditionally grown foods, eating in accordance with the principles of the golden spiral, holds the key to health where so many other approaches fail. The culture bearers of antiquity were able to create a golden age, a state that is possible only when all aspects of life are in harmony. I believe we can achieve optimal health, a clean environment, and a new level of cultural expression by consciously implementing these principles one again.

Golden Rectangle

Careful investigation of the spiralic nature of the traditional dietary pattern leads to a startling profound truth at its center: Light is the source of inspiration. This is simply a poetic way of stating that the source of all is the powerful force of creation itself - what some refer to as “God” or by many other names.

This omnipresent, omniscient force charges and generates the process and flow of energy through each stage of the spiral, supplying the raw materials for human sustenance and nourishment. These materials are comprised of macro-nutrients, vitamins, phytonutrients , carotenoids, and all other known and unknown ingredients inherent in our daily food.

More than these ingredients, every food also carries specific energetic properties exclusive to its makeup and origin. These energetic have the ability to alter our health in profound ways.

The Spiral of Nourishment

Section 1: Air

When we were born, the first breath, a simple inhalation of air, is the beginning of an incredible journey in self-discovery that is individually unique.

Throughout our lives, air will serve as our most abundant resource for nourishment. Oxygen from the air will spark the fires of metabolism, helping us to regulate all micro-and macro-cellular functions in the physical body. Although we experience variations in our respiratory quotients, the air we breathe will supply the greatest proportions of nourishment as energy to support life.
The constant exchange of oxygen with carbon dioxide through the respiratory system plays an integral role in the body’s ability to process all other forms of nourishments. Air is the one form of nourishment that is consumed while you are both asleep and awake. Other forms of nutrition listed in the chart have a proportionally equal influence on oxygen’s effectiveness – right down to the cellular level.

Section 2: Water

Water comprises more of our daily diet than we realize. Fruits and vegetables are mostly water. Grains, beans, soups and boiled or steamed foods are prepared with water. About 75 percent of the human body is water. If we were measured all that we consume at the end of the day, water would come in as the second larges quantity after air.

We require large amounts of water daily for cooling the body and cleaning the blood cells, and organs of toxins and wastes. Water is also essential in maintaining and regulating healthy bowel functioning and peristalsis.

While pure water is the ideal beverage and the one that hydrates our body cells most efficiently, our ancestors also consumed other liquids such as herbal teas, wine, beer, and water-based herbal remedies.

Section 3: Carbohydrates

The ideal carbohydrates are those consumed by traditional people: whole grain, whole grain products (bread, pasta, etc) pseudo-cereals (quinoa, amaranth, teff) and starchy vegetables (roots and tubers, sweet potato, yam, yucca, squashes and others) These foods, partly because of their versatility should make up the largest portion of the diet.

This section also includes supplementary carbohydrates (all fruits and sweeteners.) Some typical sweeteners are grain malts, honey, maple syrup, sugar cane etc. Supplementary carbohydrates were consumed in smaller quantities in traditional diets.

Among the carbohydrates, revered above all other foods, appear the “sacred gifts of the gods:” the grains and pseudo-cereals. Ancient peoples believed these staples held the genetic memory of human origin and the spiritual essence of man and woman.

Section 4: Vegetables

Vegetables include all edible land and water plants. Roots, seeds, leaves, stalks, buds, and marine – and fresh water algae are some of the plant forms consumed around the world. Although many vegetables can be considered additional sources of carbohydrates, I have placed them in a separate section, because of their dietary importance in the fist lives of our ancestors.

Vegetable contains a wide spectrum of nutrients and act as neutralizing agents when eaten in proper combination with other foods. For most people, vegetables are sorely lacking, exceptions being those instances where people practice certain ethnic traditions or dietary programs specifically based on ample quantities of a variety of fresh vegetables.

Section 5: Protein

Progressing from greatest quantity to smallest, protein sources follow wild and domesticated plants as the next category in the spiral. This includes a broad range of traditional foods, eggs, wild game, fowl, waterfowl, cattle, lamb, goat, pig, organ meats, dairy products, shellfish, fish, beans, seeds and nuts are some of the many types of protein consumed historically throughout the world.

Section 6: Fats and Oils

Fats and oils have a long journey in dietary tradition, consumed either as part of other foods or as a base use to prepared particular foods. Olives, avocados and nuts are whole-plant sources of fat; salmon, eggs, and beef are examples of animal sources. Some traditional standalone fats include animal derived butter, ghee and lard; and the plant oils from olives, sesame seeds, hazelnuts, palm kernels and coconut.

Section 7: Essential and Supportive Supplements

This section of the dietary spiral includes herbs, spices, salt, minerals and natural medicinal foods such as bee pollen, specialized fungi and micro algae. This can also include high quality sources of non-synthetic whole food supplements. Supplements have several functions. They can enhance digestion, aid assimilation, improve flavor, raise or lower blood pressure, increase kidney or live efficiency and strengthen the immune system. Peppercorns and certain spices posses’ anti0viral, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties.

Additional Considerations

The area of each section represents roughly the proportion that type of food amounted to in our agricultural ancestor’s daily diets. These proportions hold true for many generations back into perpetuity.

Each section of the chart is proportionally dependent on every other section for proper metabolic balance and health maintenance. While the charts divide different foods into sections or categories, bear in mind that in the context of nature and tradition, this represents a single continuum. You will find most foods and food groups overlapping with the preceding and/or following categories. For example, “beans and nuts” embrace nutritional combinations of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates in varying amounts.

The sections are also designed for easy recognition of the food sources most commonly accepted as fitting in the section. For example, beans (legumes) are only about 25 percent protein, yet they are most commonly thought of as a protein source and have therefore been placed in the protein category.

As another example, cheeses are high in both protein and fat and could logically be described to either category. Yet, like beans, cheese is more commonly thought of as a protein food, so it is grouped in that section. Leafy green plants, which also provide some protein, are grouped in their own section, as explained above.

Plant protein has an incomplete amino acid profile, while animal proteins contain all essential amino acids necessary for the body’s growth and cell repair.

Plant oils have a different effect in the body than animal fats, and each type of fat has its own unique effect as well. In fact, the body responds uniquely and distinctly to each different food.

Pole Shift Prophecy (Jul 2010)

Edgar Cayce

For forty-three years of his adult life, Edgar Cayce, America’s “Sleeping Prophet,” demonstrated the uncanny ability to put himself into a self-induced altered state by lying down on a couch. closing his eyes and folding his hands over his stomach. He was able to place his mind in contact with time and space. From this state, he could respond to questions on topics as diverse as health, ancient civilizations and personal spirituality. His response to these questions came to be called “readings” and contain insights so valuable that even to this day archeologists, theologians and physicians alike - no to mention hundreds of thousands of individuals – marvel at their startling insights and accurate revelations.

Edgar Cayce predicted the Earth’s poles would begin to shift in the years 2000 and 2001.He said that this pole shift would signify the beginning of a new age, higher level of consciousness, and celestial awareness to the extent that the people of the Earth would become aware of  “the people of the universe.” The magnetic poles of the Earth have changed often in Earth’s history. And there are many indications that the planet is preparing for another shift.

The evidence is in every clay pot that was ever fired. During high temperature baking, iron minerals in clay records record the exact state of Earth’s magnetic field at that precise moment. By examining pots from prehistoric to modern times, geologist John Shaw of the University of Liverpool in England has discovered how the magnetic field has weakened. “When we plot the results from the ceramics,” he says, “ we see a rapid fall as we come closer to present day. The rate of change is higher over the last 300 years than it has been for any time in the past 5.000 years. It’s going from a strong field down to a weak field, and it’s doing it very quickly.”

No one is sure what will happen. The field could weaken such that the poles suddenly flip polarity – that is – compasses begin to point to the south magnetic pole. Ancient lava flows from the Hawaiian Islands reveal both the strength of the field when the lava cooled and its north-south orientation. “When we go back about 700,000 years,” geologist Mike fuller of the University of Hawaii,” we find an incredible phenomenon. Suddenly the rocks are magnetized backwards. Instead of them being magnetized to the north like today’s field, they are magnetized to the south.”

Reversals are unpredictable. They come at irregular intervals averaging about 300,000 years. The last one was 780,000 years ago, making us long overdue. Scientist Gary Glatzmaier of the university of California Santa Cruz has observed such reversal as they occur in computer simulation. These virtual events show striking similarities to the current behavior of earth’s magnetic field and suggest we are about to experience another reversal.

Reversals take a few hundred to a few thousand years to complete. “During that time it just gets more complicated,” said Glatzmaier. “Magnetic lines of force near Earth’s surface become twisted and tangled, and magnetic poles pop up in unaccustomed places. A south magnetic pole might emerge over Africa, for instance, or a north pole over Tahiti.

What are the influences of magnetic field changes upon us? After all, we are electromagnetic beings. Changes in the magnetic field will affect us in some manner. Of course, since the last magnetic field shifted over 780,000 years ago, none of us really knows what happened to humans. Dr. Valerie Hunt developed a special constructed room in which she can change the magnetic field. In her book “Infinite Mind”, she reports that when “the magnetism was decreased, gross in coordination occurred. The entire neurological integrating mechanism was thrown off. Subjects could not balance their bodies and they had difficulties touching finger to nose or performing simple coordinated movements. They lost kinesthetic awareness.”

Of course, Dr. Hunt was creating the change quickly. The real magnetic shift will be happening over long periods of time, allowing humans to adapt their bodies to a new environment. Humans and many animals are sensitive to magnetic fields because their brains contain iron oxide crystals (Magnetite) that align with magnetic north, like a compass needle. This is how some animals can migrate long distances during all type of weather and not get lost.

But the greatest danger of a magnetic pole shift is the breakdown of the magnetic shield that protects us from solar radiation. Long ago Mars lost its magnetic shield and subsequently its atmosphere. However, neither Cayce’s readings nor Nostradamus visions see the end of humanity on Earth for some time yet. And there is evidence that the shield is not likely to disappear but simply to have weak spots, even holes that may allow more than normal radiation to penetrate to the surface in a few places.

Scientists have presented detailed information about this on the PBS NOVA program Magnetic Storm originally aired November 18. 2003, but often re-aired. A DVD of this program is available at http:/shop.wgbh.org.

The best part of the Cayce prophecy is the beginning of the New Age. Of course, when we view the evening news, it appears that the world is far from an age of enlightenment and the brother/sisterhood of all humankind. Yet some believe that the magnetic shift may have an unexpected positive effect on human brains, freeing them from Earth’s powerful fields. Certainly Cayce’s view implies such a positive outcome.

Earth Changes

Today, many groups continue to predict major cataclysms and the approach of inevitable change. Ironically, oftentimes these groups have failed to realize that change is all about us. There are wars and rumor of wars broadcast around the globe in the blink of an  eye. We hear of floods and famine and hate crimes as they occur. A day does not pass by when we don’t see renewed evidence of gang wars or drugs or our inhumanity to one another. Unfortunately, much of this information has become so commonplace that we simply shrug our shoulders, change the channel, and turn the page. In many places, the world has become more fractured than ever before, as politics, race, sexuality, culture and religion divide us. Countless thousands of individuals have been killed, are dying, or have simply given up. And yet – despite of all these things, some individuals continue to wait for the Big One as evidence of changing times.

It is time to wake up and realize that the changing times are happening RIGHT NOW. Our world, our civilization, and our individual lives are all undergoing dramatic personal and collective change. Yet, this is sometimes hard for us to recognize because the changes have not been one single event. They have rather been a process. Cayce’s predictions for the future are not really about earth changes, or polar shifts, instead they are about the fact that a new world is being born. The changing events in our lives and in our surroundings are to enable us to remember why we are here.

Coming Together as a Global Family

It is true that the geological condition of the planet make some earth changes inevitable. There will be continued earthquakes. But potentially even more influential changes come from worldwide political turmoil, economical challenges, wars, and more upheavals that are not necessarily geological in nature. The purpose of the changes we are experiencing is not for the changes themselves, but rather it is so that we will undergo personal and global transformation. Only this way may we ushering the dawn of the New Aquarian Age.

From Cayce’s perspective, the future offers not destruction and hopelessness, but the change to transform the world as we work together, building hope and community for all of humankind. Today, wherever we find ourselves, there is a great need to come together as one global family. That is our collective destiny. That is the potential we share as spiritual beings manifesting here on earth at this time.

A Message from Adama of the Lemurian

Council of Twelve Elders of Telos

Introduction and Welcome from Adama

It is with great love and much support from the many realms of the Light of Telos and beyond that the third volume of the Telos series is presented to you at this time of great Earth changes. I am sure you have already noticed that those changes have already begun for the cleansing and transformation of your planet into Her glorious destiny. Allow this purification of the Earth, because it is most necessary for the “Mother” to renew Her body that has been so desecrated.

The material presented here is designed to continue to stretch your heart and mind to another new level of Christhood and mastery. If you are choosing to move along Earth’s destiny and evolve your consciousness to be able to live in a world of pure love and light, it is now more imperative than ever before that you awaken the perceptions of your true destiny and make it a priority and the most important goal of your life. You must gain the full understanding of what it means to become an ascended being and the state of consciousness and responsibilities that come with it. You have played the separation and karma game for too long. Too many of you still hold much illusion regarding the level of consciousness you must embrace to fully become your divinity incarnate, and to fulfill your heart’s longings for this sublime alchemy of the soul that Ascension brings.

Our beloved Aurelia could not channel this material until she was able to gain and accomplish, in the Garden of her own Heart, a great part of the understanding of the level of love and Surrender that are required to enter into the world of ‘Oneness’. She agreed to expose in this book some of the dialogues she has had with us, about her own difficulties and frustrations she experienced in reaching the level she has now achieved. She agreed to do this to expose her own travails for your benefit. It is meant to show you that what one can attain, everyone else can also.

Who Is Adama?

Adama is the High Priest of the Lemurian Council of Twelve Elders of Telos, a city of Light in Inner Earth beneath Mt. Shasta. He, along with the thousands of survivors of the Lemurian continent, which sank into the Pacific Ocean 12,000 years ago, is presently in the forefront of assisting humanity to reclaim their divinity and spiritual freedom. He is the New Consciousness Teacher and Mentor for humanity in transformation to higher consciousness, lovingly offering guidance with the aim of creating an illuminating bridge of Love and communication between our two civilizations. He emphasized that it is the bridge of Love and receptivity of the reciprocal of Hearts that will eventually bring him to us in amore tangible way.

Awakening to a Fifth Dimensional Consciousness

I greet you again from my heart, and ask you to join in consciousness from a gathering with the Council of Elders of Telos. It is in this way that the knowledge gathered from our experience, and the frequency of the wisdom gained by all of our souls, is passed  along to the greater society in our Lemurian culture. We gather like this in a regular basis and conduct classes as such, although we prefer to call them “sharings.”

We wish to speak for you today of the protocols of the Fifth Dimensional vibration that you now wish to understand in order to be able to access  if for yourself in your daily reality. The question has been asked: “What do we need to do to ascend to the Fifth Dimension?” Understand that yes, there are preparations in consciousness and purifications that must take place. But basically, in the new reality that is now being established on the surface of your planet, the Fifth Dimension is not a place that you will go to, but rather a state of beingness you will attain, that will gradually establish the Fifth Dimension in your present realm.golden

The Fifth Dimension is a vibration, or rather a marriage of vibrations that are represented in the energies of love, trust, compassion, faith, grace and gratitude, representing a frequency of the purest form.

The structure and organization of our societies in the Fifth Dimension flow organically from an integration of these energies by the individuals who reside here. Our Lemurian community in Telos mirrors our Fifth Dimensional experience as an outpouring of our combined manifestations and embodiment of these qualities in a heartfelt communion with all that surrounds us.

We did not emerge from the womb with this mastery and awareness present in our consciousness, and neither did you. Even the new generations of children who are arriving every day in your transitioning dimension are not fully in their mastery, although they are more awake that you were when you came. It is through the joy and the journey of this experience of Earth that we evolve. It is through the grace of this planet that evolution is and has been part of the experience of every soul who has incarnated here. The grace of your present time is that now you may fully waken to your mastery, and regain this consciousness for the remainder of your soul’s evolution, whether you choose to ascend and in this incarnation or choose to continue to experience cycles of incarnations here or elsewhere.

We wish to share with you practices that have been the core of our spiritual evolution. We still follow these practices to this day, and we share them with our children. They exist as a foundation for our constantly ever-expanding journey through and to Creator Source. They are centered on the principle that we are responsible for our own energy. Before the unity consciousness of the Fifth Dimensional vibration can be fully integrated globally, this work must be done on an individual basis with each one of you.  This is the journey that each individual must walk to the end, and that no one can do this for you.

Most important of these practices is the offering of compassion and non-violent communication in thoughts, words, deeds and feelings. Indeed, self-compassion forms the cornerstone of the spiritual awakening that is necessary if one is to recognize and integrate the Fifth Dimensional vibration. This vibration already exists around you at all times. As the frequency of the planet becomes more and more refined, it is a responsibility of our human experience, no matter what dimension we reside in, for each one to purify and refine their own vibration.

We do this for the evolution of our Divine Essence, and we do this for the greatest good of all kingdoms who reside on and within this glorious planet that we call “Mother”. This is a solemn and divine responsibility does not rest lightly on your shoulders, and yet, confers on you the grace of that is unparalleled in the history of the Earth. You now must walk as masters and mentors yourself, even if your human form may not seem to mesh well with your remembrances of other times and places where timelessness and infinite possibilities abounded.

We say to you with all of the truth that our heart can share that now, this present moment in Earth history, is a time of infinite possibility. This is a magical time of creation from the highest divine source to the densest of your physical reality. We know and feel your heart greet ours in the truth, although your minds still struggle the full scope of what we are bluehattelling you. Your minds still demand rituals and rules, and proof this is irrefutable, before you will step one foot upon the new path. So we will work today with practices that, if you will allow them, can bring you back to the frequency of faith and trust, not doubt and denial.

Many masters have shared these truths throughout the eons of evolution that this planet has already experienced. But it is in your experience in this lifetime that is most important. Today, you have an opportunity to hear these words again with more evolved ears, and to recognize them on a deeper heart level than has ever been available before in your physical dimension. Today, you have the opportunity to work with the support of all of creation to bring this truth, this is why you are here, and this is why you were given the opportunity to incarnate at this time.

As your respected Native Elders have told you: “You Are the One You Have Been Waiting For.”

We will begin with exercises may already be familiar to you. If you have experiences them in the past, we say now is the time to experience them again with a fresh perspective. If they are already a part of your daily practices, we also say that now is the time to experience them with a fresh perspective in your dimension is in fact quite simple. The subtleties that you will witness, however, are enormous. Within each level of vibration that you can access and integrate, the activity becomes simpler, but the results become much more expansive.

We will explore practices that awaken all of us the divinity we are meant to express, and dismantle the illusions that veil the original mind and freeze the heart. We will restore to you methods for re-awakening your consciousness that lead to inner freedom and an understanding of the true power of love. Level One of this practice involves the evolution of the Self.

About Mount Shasta

The Magic Mountain

. Shasta is

a most majestic mountain that anchors the northern end of the Sierra Nevada Mountain range. It is located in Siskiyou County in Northern California, approximately 33 miles from the Oregon border. Mt. Shasta is the cone of an extinct volcano rising to a height of over 14.162 feet above sea level, and is the largest volcanic peak in the continental United States.

For those gifted with clairvoyant abilities, Mt Shasta is embraced in a gigantic, etheric purple pyramid whose capstone extends far beyond this planet in space, and connects us intergalactically to the Confederation of Planets for this sector of the Milky Way Galaxy. This awesome pyramid also includes an inverted version of itself that extends down to the very core of the Earth. Mt. Shasta represents the entry point of the Light Grids of this planet. It is the location where most of the energy arrives initially from the galactic and universal core before it is disseminated to other mountains and into the rest of the grids. Most mountaintops, especially tall mountains, are Beacons of light feeding the light-grids of this planet.

Prior to the sinking of their continent, fully aware of the eventual destiny of their beloved land, the ancient Lemurians, using their mastery of energy, crystals, sound and vibrations, hollowed out a vast underground city with the intention of preserving their culture, their treasures and their records of ancient Earth’s history. This section of history has been lost to humanity since the sinking of Atlantis.

Lemuria was once a vast continent, larger than North America, connected to parts of California, Oregon, Nevada and Washington states. This large continent disappeared overnight into the Pacific Ocean over 12,000 years ago during a vast cataclysm. All inhabitants of the Earth at that time considered Lemuria their motherland and there was much grieving of the Earth when it was lost.

At that time, approximately 25.000 Lemurians were able to migrate into the interior of Mt. Shasta, the most important of their various administrative center prior to the sinking of the Motherland. And beloveds, you who are reading this now know in your hearts that your former brothers and sisters of Lemuria never left you. They are still here in physical, immortalized bodies, totally unlimited and living in a 5th dimensional reality.-

Plant Spirit Shamanism (May 2010)
Making Healing Allies in Nature

By Ross Heaven

flower0Since the beginning of human experiences, plants have played a role in the evolution of our species, not only in the provision of food and medicine but in our deepest spiritual experience and the development of consciousness.

Their form, beauty, enchanting scents, their healing and emotional qualities, have all provided a gateway to the Great Mystery of Nature, which our Celtic forebears called "The visible face of Spirit."

Though our lands are not longer forested as they were, we try to recreate a sense of their beauty and tranquility in our gardens, parks, and the green spaces in our cities, giving us at least a taste of Nature with which we can sustain ourselves against the soulless backdrop of the steel and concrete jungle that are our homes today.

For many people, plants are still the messengers of divinity, harmony and beauty. They are also the source of our health and well-being, not just as medicine but also in their ability to relax, refresh and excite us.

flower3Some deep part of us knows that the healing power of plants is inherent in what they are as much as what they do. Flowers have a role to play, for example, in all of our most primal celebrations of life and death – birth and birthdays, coming-of-age, marriage, illnesses, funerals and deaths. They are there at the first "I love you", and they are there for our endings too. Even after death our connection to the natural world continues and our spiritual destination in many religions myths is some form of paradise, which is often symbolized as the "Heavenly Garden," or the Garden of Eden.

Archeology shows that plant spirit shamanism has been part of our healing experience for thousands of years, predating other practices by millennia and going back to a time when healers worked in harmony with Nature.

Plant Shamanism is – and always has been – a person-centered approach and incorporates in a holistic way, practices such as herbalism, energy work, aromatherapy, and counseling to provide a unique blend of therapies that is most needed by each individual client, based on the healer's attunement to a state of balance or otherwise of that client's soul. But it is also fundamentally spirit-centered, and all traditional healers – from the Curanderos of the Amazon to the 'folk magicians of Ireland – regard plants as sentient, aware, intelligent, alive and as 'doctors' in their own right.

Plant shamanism involves practices for meeting these spirits, such as shamanic journeying, soul retrieval, rituals using flowers and fragrances, offering to Nature, flora baths for protection, and the use of visionary plants to find purpose, clarity and new directions in life. All of these, to the shaman, are implied by the term 'healing'.

Ways of Healing

As a young boy, I was apprenticed to a Welsh sin eater – a 'cunning man,' as they were called in Wales, who used plants and flowers in the healing work. One of the methods was to bury the name of a patient, etched on a piece of bone, in a corner of his garden, next to a patch of sunflowers. Each day he would say his prayers over the flower, consulting with them on the condition of his patient, then squeeze a few petals so their aroma would be released. As the scent drifted upwards, he said, a little more of his patient's illness was carried away until he or she was healed.

This may seem like a strange approach in our culture today, but when I grew up and went traveling I found the same essential methods used in Haiti, Peru, Africa, Greece, America, Turkey.... So it is not an eccentricity or even unique to Wales.

The world over, in fact, wherever shamans work with plant spirits rather than extracts and compounds as Western doctors do, it is understood that plants are alive, aware and willing to teach their healing secrets. Plant spirit shamanism is therefore learned ally - by getting out into the fields and making contact with natural forces, not by reading about plants in some dusty library.

The sin eater communicated with plants in this way and knew several magical uses for them that they had told him of. For example, the sunflower's, he used were actually marigolds, but he called them sunflowers, because they are "bright as the sun" and warmed the soul with protection. flower2It is interesting then, that we find the same belief in Andean Peru, where rosa sisa (African marigold) are also used for protection. Here, they are often planted by the door of a house so if someone should pass by and give the 'evil eye', the flowers will catch these negative energies and protect the soul of the houses from diseases. The petals turned black when this happens, but revert to their bright color when the energy is discharged through their roots to the soil.

The sin eater I knew had never visited Peru and yet the message from the plant was the same: marigolds - sun flowers' – protect.

Working with Plants

The key thing with plant spirits shamanism is to establish a connection with the plant. Once that is done, the plant spirits themselves teach you everything you need to know and reveal the many ways of using them in healing, most of which are very unlike the Western medical notion of ingesting them in a tablet or even herbal form.

In Haiti, Peru, Brazil, Indonesia, and even in our own Celtic past, there is a practice, for example, of taking floral baths, where flowers and herbs are added to blessed water. The sick person then bathes to wash away his ailments. These baths are not restricted to physical healing, but can be used to draw good fortune and change your luck (which is regarded as real and tangible force), making you more open to the receipt of money, love and spiritual power.

Other ways of working with plants include the making of pockets, power pouches, containing herbs that remove negative energies, while returning life force to the patient as the pouch is brushed over his/her body. The packet has similarities to the Amazonian chacapa, a bundle of dried leaves which has medicinal powers to rebalance the patient's energy field, and is rubbed over the body in the same way.

The segure of the Andes, a bottle which contains a mixture of plants and herbs in Holy water and perfume uses the same principles of spiritual connection with the plants. Here the shapes, colors or qualities of the plants invoke various powers that the client wishes to draw into his life. Round, golden, seeds attract money, for example, while cactus spines embody protection. The seguro, according to the Andean shamans, becomes a "friend" you can consult with. Every time you speak out your problems to this friend, they are removed, while the powers of the plants draw good energy in.

One rule that comes consistently in this work is that we must treat our plant allies with respect. In Haiti, healers literally pay the plants for their work by dropping coins at the base of the tree they 're collecting leaves from. They are then 'fed' and there is a fair exchange: we charge the plants with energy so they have the power to heal us.

We must also treat plants kindly. Research shows that they have feelings, intelligence, language – even the ability to count and make music! – and they can sense our intentions and respond to our actions. If we treat them with love, they flourish and grow. If not, then their spirits die and we do not have the healers we need.

Getting Out of Our Minds

One of the biggest challenges for the Western mind is learning how to work with plant spirits is our cultural fascination with science and measurement. This socialization into 'scientific thinking' is hard to overcome because as part of it, we have been taught to stifle our dreaming and imaginative selves. Luckily, however, there are also plants, which have a spiritual intention to re-establish our connection with the spirit-universe and open us up to the true nature of reality.

One of these is guayusa. In the Amazon it is known as "the night watchman's plant" because of its ability to bring lucid dreams and dissolve the boundaries between wakefulness and sleep. Thus, the night watchman can take guayusa and nap, while remaining alert to the sounds and sights around him as he watches over the tribe.

The shamans say that in every country we have plants to cater for our own needs; thus in Europe, it may be difficult to find guayusa, but a tea made of vervain, valerian and chamomile will achieve similar effects.

Another way of getting 'out of our minds' is through a special state of trance consciousness known as shamanic journeying.

To take any shamanic journey, find a time and a place where you can be alone and undisturbed for 20 minutes or so. Then dim the lights or cover your eyes, lie down and make yourself comfortable. Most journeys are taken to the sound of drumming, which encourages 'dreaming' patterns to emerge in the brain, taking the shaman deeper into a more holistic experience of the world in its fullness. You can drum yourself, have a friend drum for you, or use a drumming tape to guide your journey.

Expressing your intention and keeping this in focus is again important, Intention is the energy that guides the journey and enables you to engage with the mind of the universe so it can work with you.

You can try this yourself by setting your intention to meet with a plant ally - the consciousness of a plant that will guide you into the world of the collective plant mind. You do not need to have a specific plant in mind. Stay open instead - to whatever comes.

As soon as the drumming begins, imagine yourself entering a place, which connects you to the earth in a way that is meaningful to you, and then allow your imagination to take you where you will. All you need to do is to receive. When your plant ally appears to you spend some time in conversation with him or her (in the imaginative world, most plants take a human form). Enquire about its healing gifts and the way these properties manifest in the plants themselves, Ask how you can work with this ally and the plants that embody him or her.

Visit your ally often in this way and you will learn more about the world of the plants, the nature of reality and indeed, about yourself, as part of this vast and beautiful universe.

Conscious Agreements in Your Body and Our World (Apr 2010)

Shesat through Norma Gentile

vertigo

So often in New Age circles, we speak of illness as “dis-ease.” It is true that there is usually a sense of discomfort in illness. It is not always in the exact location where physical disease may eventually manifest, but it may instead be felt as discomfort or imbalance in the lifestyle or emotions. Very often the physical body registers discomfort at a subtle level. This happens long before the disease has manifested in the body. The physical body registers sensations of what is going on all around us kinesthetically, two, three, four, five or six feet away from us. Often times when something begins to register as illness or noticeable discomfort, we look at the body itself. We forget to look outside of the body, where it is probably coming from – the subtle energy field two feet, three feet or more outside of the physical body.

In these surrounding spaces, we intersect with other people. Our energies intersect with those groups of people we have agreements with, such as our biological family, those who live in our neighborhood or city, coworkers and people we know from the school we attend or the sport we participate in. Most people have easily a dozen primary agreements between themselves and a group of people in their life.

These soul-level agreements are typically unconscious. But sometimes, particularly in groups we meet with daily, such as work partners, a group will bring to consciousness an unconscious agreement that does not serve the group well. For example, if an employer has allowed someone at work to behave poorly towards other employees, there will be pressure upon the unconscious agreement among the employees that allows this behavior. Either the agreement will be brought into consciousness and addressed, or the one who brings it into consciousness might be fired. The outcome depends on the agreement and soul’s journey of all those involved. It is not about one side being right and another wrong. It is about setting up situations that our soul desire can learn from.

We can see this play out on a national level as well. All those in form in Canada manifest a certain quality of energy. Those in form in the United States have a different quality of energy. People residing in these countries have agreements to resonate or tune their bodies to some portion of the energetic signature there. There are also agreements between these two larger soul groups as to how these energies will interact – or may interact – in the near future. Each person’s soul has an agreement with their own national consciousness and their soul has chosen a quality of energy that reflects its agreement with that larger national consciousness. Therefore, whether they live in Canada or the United States or China, each person’s physical body resonates with some aspect or national consciousness and each person affects that consciousness.

Generating Stillness

By simply being in a human body, you carry an agreement about the quality of energy that you will manifest. As long as you are in that body, the quality of energy that you have agreed to bring is present. The quality of energy resonated out and is perceptible to everyone. When you take time to sit in stillness and do nothing, you have the opportunity to turn within and find the vibration that your soul has agreed to bring into the Earth plane on behalf of humanity. In many cultures, this concept of simply being and allowing your presence to radiate out is not spoken of or thought about. Yet it is the most powerful way to be a resonant factor that has an influence upon events in the world. Take, for example, the rising use of adrenaline in your society. In the last twenty-five years you have embraced a lack of sleep into your culture and the addition of caffeine into your diets. Coffee and chocolate are ubiquitous. There is nothing wrong with it; it is a direction that has been chosen. But as a result, fewer people possess the ability to sit and feel the subtle energies. Ironically, just as the awareness of Spirit and healing energies has increased, you have also increased your intake of substances, that, when used beyond moderation, decrease your power to access to these same energies.

Is this not a bit funny? Caffeine allows you to purposely work in a linear fashion. Spirit works in more of an upward spiral. As you have greater access to the energetic tides of Spirit, the rise of consumption of caffeine continues. And even while you feel the impulse of honor the spiral creation of Spirit, your over consumption indicates a choice to create a linear fashion. Perhaps this is a last minutes rush to function outside of your connection to Spirit. However, I see that those things built in a purely linear fashion will not stand. They will not last.

Allow yourself to wonder. What is it that you have done in this linear fashion? What is it that you have simply pushed through, using your own will, rather than listening you how Spirit wanted to co-create with you? When we allow ourselves that quiet place to simply sit and listen to Spirit, what we manifest appears to take a little longer to complete, but the result is permanent.

Linear Creation Versus the Spiral Path of Spirit.

As more and more people within the Earth have embraced a linear way of creating, they have also embraced the idea that they can utilize their own personal energies to bring forth what they desire. This type of linear manifestation has led to rise in “trouble waters.” Spirit has to navigate these troubled waters, and in doing so there is not always an easy flow in its creation process with others. Any time the flow of creation is troubled by anyone manifesting in a linear fashion, it makes it just a little harder for us to easily hear what Spirit is suggesting as our next step. We become so accustomed to the troubled waters around us and to the constant subtle static in our bodies.

Continuing to force the body into linear behavior that is simply not in alignment with the soul and spirit eventually brings much tiredness and fatigue into the physical form, depleting the adrenals and kidneys. Because we are preoccupied with the success or failure of our other doings, we may miss the fact that our inner quiet is no longer really quiet. And it is this constant static that block our ability to heard deeper levels of what Spirit wants to give us naturally and easily. This block continues until we choose - - or we are forced – to take action that releases our insistence on moving linearly, we allow Spirit to move us along with it its own spiral path.

My guides remind me that peace is the result of inner stillness, connection to Spirit and knowing oneself. When we spend time being who we truly are, we generate a quality of stillness that makes peaceful actions more appealing to us than violence. Our unique quality of stillness resonates through our shared human consciousness and through that living quantum space within the atom of all form.

Allowing Spirit to Flow Into Religious Conflict

Many religions have arisen within the Middle East. Over and over, each of these religions has veered slightly from its original intent. Whether it was to help manifest cleaner bodies (Judaism), or whether it was to help to safeguard the integrity of the divine feminine (Islam), with linear creation there has been a misconstruing of the various religions. As we look now upon the Middle East, we see that something different might arise. Yet this one is one of the principle power points of the Earth. Eventually, something will resolve. The creative stroke of your own artistry and your ability to sit steady presence of Spirit.

Being reactive means you are not within the scope of Spirit. As you sit quietly and see the entire reaction-taking place now upon the Earth, being still within the body center, that stillness within you is then offered to whatever you behold. Each moment, each issue, each obstacle as you behold it, can no longer stand in the way of the flow of the creative waters.

Stillness Brings Remembrance

For many people, particularly women and men who are very sensitive to their feminine aspect, emotions play a huge part in how we create our reality. More and more, the outer reality that we observe can be affected by the inner reality that we experience. Your own stillness draws forth a remembrance of stillness from those involved in conflicts, wars and battles. It draws that remembrance of home through them, within the atoms of their bodies. Your stillness awakens the soul within their body, and reminds them of the communion they share with you as humans here upon the Earth.

In this manner we do not aim to force peace or to inflict an artificial straight line of resolution to conflict. Instead we offer that service of remembrance that each might be nourished and fed, simply because there are those who sit in silence and sit in alignment, which is true peace.

A Stillness Mediation

Even as you read these words, you may choose to allow your own stillness to move out to all those in your life. Let the still vibrations of who are move through you and therefore be audible to all those with who you have agreements in your neighborhood, your city, your country, and throughout the world. Do not inflict the stillness, but simply find it within your body, and so offer it as remembrance.

Know that as you listen in silence, what is truly your soul’s journey is dawn out from within you. As you meditate, know that your next step might be to the side rather than directly in front, following the spiral path of Spirit. Our blessings upon each of you.
