SEEING WITH THE INNER EYE

11.7.1968

Yada: Good evening. Everybody looking well; question is, are you feeling well? Old saying: Can never tell a book by its cover. I regret not having been with you for so long.

     Audience: We missed you, Yada.

Yada: Gratia. But always we have to move as the necessity demands of us. Is no use to – like my English Professor Luntz says, “grassing about it”? We do as we must any given moment, and if we are not, we are making a break in the continuity of our thoughts and acts.  It is very important, especially for people who are beginning to work on keeping continuity in their lives and in their doing. When we forget, too often, we begin to create breaks in our personality. We become somewhat schizophrenic, paranoid. Interesting words, dangerous diseases.

I am wondering tonight whether it would not be helpful to have some of you say directly something to me. And we together carry our thoughts, as you sitting here desire to do. Too often I have talked with a group of people who ask very few questions.

Night before last in a place called Esalen where I encountered and had the joy of communicating with a number of people. Most considered themselves ‘hippies.’ Now you know even better than I that the word ‘hip’ means – one who knows.

     Question: One who knows what?

Yada: You shouldn’t have asked that. (laughter). One who is self-aware of what he is doing. One who is conscious of his acts and his thoughts and caries them out, again, in their continuity. But I do not find this in many of the young people and I think this is their greatest trouble. The majority does not know what they want. They only know that their former condition have been unpleasant and rather tasteless to them intellectually and emotionally. But how can anyone lead another into paths that he feels are the right ones? If that one who is being led has no background to understand the path he is being led to.

It is very much like in your modern times. There is a man who wants to get into a high position in some particular business and he hopes to get there with the assistance of a friend who is already there. Now it is natural, or should be, that we help one another in any way we can, but if the person who is being helped has no substance to keep him in the position he feels he should have, the position in which he is placed by a friend – he will lose it. He is going to fall down, back to where he started from.

So it is with the teachings of life. We must have some fabric upon whom we can weave our ambitions and feelings of life. If the fabric is no more than a willingness to learn it will be of considerableadvantage to us.

You are living in very dangerous times. But you know, it occurs to me, as I look back through the Ages, that man has never lived in anything but dangerous times. It has been those dangers that has led him to confusion and pain where he then brought upon himself the destruction of his civilization.

Every time back through history you always find this, man leading himself into destruction because he does not know what else to do. Man has not giving himself much understanding of himself and his fellowman. He has not presented that wonderful essence of life called love in such a manner, that the great majority of people could comprehend it and come quietly out of the darkness of ignorance.

When we not come quietly – when we use violence to grow, we are destroying things along the path. So we feel after a time that there is nothing on the path, that there is no path, that all is struggle and fight. You actually live in a parasitical world. But when we know what love is you will not chew so hard on your neighbor, nor he on you. You will not be so willing to satisfy your hunger at the expense of his body and mind.

To know what love is – is to be free from External ambition.

When you want to override one another at all cost, just for yourself which is called greed, because we think there is not enough for us – for me. So I have to go looking for you, destroy you, so I will have a better chance for myself. Does this not sound like man when he himself is little more than an animal? Is it necessary for him to struggle and fight, necessary to hate, to project himself against his so called enemy? So he later turned that same face of ignorance to his fellowman, to what he calls his friends and people in his society. And the society itself becomes destroyed.

Man is in another age, an age of scientific advancement. It is always hoped for when we advance scientifically, we will have the same advancement in love, in understanding. But that is seldom the case.

These Beings coming from outer space in your world are in themselves kind enough beings. But remember, they are extremely advanced along the path of scientific knowledge, which removes their compassion, to say nothing of their love for other Beings. They do what they feel is necessary, as you do sometimes in your hospitals, sometimes with your animals. They do it in a detached way. They are hoping to produce a better – not philosophical, but more complete human being right underneath that robot.

Here some of your doctors treat their patients in a way that they feel is the best. Not considering the pain, the suffering they put them through. You do not object to that, do you?

Several members: I do object.

     Yada: Of course.

Lady: I mean when I am the victim.

Yada: It is always that way. Like the story of the lion and the hunter. Very interesting story. The hunter is out in the woods and he sees a lion. So he gets a gun and presses the trigger but the gun does not fire and he starts sweating a little bit. So he tries again and now the lion rushes at him with full force. Then the hunter misfires again. Now this man had another quality besides being a hunter. He was also a Christian. It demanded of him that he falls to his knees and start praying, because the lion was gaining much on him. So he falls on his knees and starts praying. Pretty soon he hears the lion beside him, hot breath in his face and he is completely terrorized. But he is a good Christian, so he goes on praying. Then he peeks out of one eye and sees the lion also in a position of prayer. So he is very pleased and says to the lion: “Oh, I am so glad you are also a Christian.” And the lion looked around and said: “I do not know what you are doing, but I am saying grace.” (laughter).

And so it is. We never know what life is doing because it is us. We are life and not being aware of it, I think that life is about to do something to me.

Life can do no more to the individual than the individual lets life do. For life is you and me.

Audience: The last statement prompts me to a question. You speak as man being a different group, as being a recognizable collection that you can stand up on one side and say: This is man. Then you say, life is you and me. The man that you speak of earlier, where you speaking of a part of man or the total man and consciousness. If so what separates them?

Yada: Just for conveniences sake, in reality, we cannot talk about man and make a blank statement about him. There is only one mind and that one mind is in all of us here on earth, or anywhere else under any other condition. It is one life.

This is when I talk about reincarnation the way I do, because man, nothing reincarnates. There is nothing but mind to exist in. We may manifest bodies from time to time, but that is just the activity of consciousness of the one mind.

Man: So when you separate all recognition as man learns by destroying himself and so forth, you are speaking of man as being a recognizable level of consciousness.

     Yada: Yes.

Audience: Recognizable group as far as that level consciousness?

Yada: That is right – and here lies the great difficulty, because this life, this consciousness operates in different ways. Totally different ways in each person as well as in each thing, in each animal, in each flower, tree, fishes – whatever. So that we cannot talk about anything in a collective group, not really. As I said, if we do it, it is only for convenience sake.

People ask me: Where are you living, Yada? I can only say to them: Where are you living? And they look at me with great confusion in their eyes. They do not understand that we are all living in the same thing, the one consciousness. But functioning differently because of the difference in the mechanical chemical electrical activity of the body. No two things are alike. I think you already know this. So what makes it different?

Audience: Would it be fair to say that it is similar to the notes on the piano  and that you may take a given octave within the range in which there is a infinite variety of the tones, that you can take that group, that octave as being the consciousness which we experience?

Yada: That is right and beautifully put. When we, who seek to learn, come to the realization that we are all from one source, then we will perhaps begin to work more closely together in greater states of harmony.

Why is this? Because it takes the fear out of  us which we are literally born with. We not only develop it, we are born with it.

We are born remembering the dangers of the physical world and the many experiences that we had here.

Not in separate lives. It feels like separate lives.

Like you go to sleep and you have another dream. It seems as thought you have a series of separate conditions, but the separation are only due to the way we have been conditioned. So we are frightened of it  each frightening in a different way.

Why is it that fear affects each individual in a different way? The nervous system of each of us is that much different than others. Our memory patterns tell us how to react to any existence. Perhaps we will react differently today because of what we learned than we did yesterday or that we will tomorrow as we learn more. Many people are afraid of the beings coming from outer space to earth. They live in fear every day. It is a new fear for them, so they enjoy it better.

Now there is something else to fear. If the space people don’t get you, earth will get you with quaking and great storms and floods. When can you stop being afraid? Where can you sit without trembling, so you are shaking everything around you.

Before the space beings came here was atomic fear. Man is going to destroy himself with the atom. Do you want something else to be afraid of? We must know that something is going to eventually destroy our bodies, because that is the nature of our body – to deteriorate. But when we know these things or other things such as how to control the mind, how to control the grips with it so that the body becomes under its direction consciously. When we can do this, it will not matter to us whether we getting killed in a cracking or atomic war, or whatever. We will always be ready to make a change.

For I Am a Being of forever. I was never born, therefore I cannot die. I, that Creative Self without fear is with us all the time, wherever we are.

We must find a center of balance if we are going to live more or less comfortable in the physical world. If we die in terror of dying, we find ourselves in this otherness of mind in terror. We do not want to accept the fact that we have lost our physical body, so we sit in the doorway between two worlds and cry like a child cries for sweet things.

Cruelty! Is there something called ‘cruelty?’ Is nature itself indifferent to what happens to us? Yes, of course. Because why? It moves unconsciously. It is a law without emotional attitude attached to it.  Only we care. We, who call themselves humans and we do because we have designed a body for that kind of thought, another system. The activity of that other system  or part of that activity is fear, anxiety, because it comes out or our uncertainty of our environment, so we cannot conquer these things right away. Such fears saved us in the past from early destruction. As a civilization grows, most of the time, it has less and less reason to be afraid because it has more and more time to understand itself and its surroundings. It stops jumping at shadows. The dinosaurs of fear do not look into the bedroom window so often.

Audience: I would disagree with that, Yada.

Yada: Very nice. I always like to be disagreed with.

Audience: The reason I say this is that the physical dinosaur of fear and uncertainty do not look into our bedroom window, but just as soon as we pass our mark of development that is to say physically, we enter the next plateau called mental and we find ourselves literally back in a cavemen-like era and the dinosaurs are turned into physical fear, or mental fears, or because the emotional heightening to the response of the psychic, we find ourselves in our emotional babyhood and the dinosaur exists on that plateau and here we go again.

Yada I know there was a reason for my not coming here tonight. That is the difficulty of being a teacher and having pupils, pretty soon the pupil is unseating you. And naturally he or she should.

Audience: Yes, but if the pupil knows the teacher consciously creates the question to stimulate exactly that response, it is all right.

Yada: You just gave me my faith back in myself. (laughter.) But what you say is all right. Man does not learn very easily. He does not really want to. He rather makes up a fairy story about his life. The truth always seems too painful until he gets it. Then he embraces it because it is his natural food.

To Know Is Man’s Natural Food.

That’s what he ate in the Garden of Eden and got thrown out for. He ate his natural food – not only the fruit of the tree, but the leaves and branches. The whole list right down to the roots and he looks around for more. Only foolish gods forbid man to do anything.

Irene Probert: May I may a comment? When Mark and I were on this recent convention trip, I observed without exception, individuals, who came to hear what are called ‘New Age Speakers”, because they all have the same feeling that something is in the wind of the cycles that we feel the danger. We feel that we have to do something now. But then, when everybody got together, in their togetherness and as individuals – they said it. We feel this and it feels like a good part of it something that we want to draw, to do something with it. Because we do not know what to do and the effect of the period is like. We are in a dynamic stagnant and don’t know what to do. Could you tell us something about that without telling us what to do?

     Yada: Chinese puzzle.

Audience: I mean, if literally the state of awareness of anyone who is slightly awake.

Yada: This is so. Now with the first thing that people like yourself, who are really seeking to know, I think one of the things you must do is to practice being conscious of whatever it is you are doing. So this way, at least, you will make fewer mistakes.

No one can believe that the individual can overcome all of his condition that does not create what he hopes they will create. We can only try and get a little of these things at a time, so I say this by saying  - do what you feel you must. You reach out to help those There is but mind to wake up from the dream of matter. You try to explain to them that this Age which is called “The Aquarian Age, is the first step into man’s return to the source to the Light.

Now it is going to take as many million million of years, or almost, as it took the physical time to grow; yet it will seem faster. Because as you learn, your world will change in such a way that you will be out-distancing the time that it took many to develop physically.

Mind man will take a long time for completion if it is to benefit mankind. But it occurs to me, that all human beings will not grow at the same rate as others, so that some will be left behind and left behind on the earth while the rest of humanity moves on to the stars.

It is said in your Christian book that ‘the meek will inherit the earth.’ But the brave and courageous and the bold shall let it go and move to higher realms. I can say to you in all sincerity, there is going to come a time when man is going to live in space. This was his natural habitat before he created the matter world by tickling a few atoms. It got out of hand. Have you ever watched the cellular structure of yeast? It gets out of hand.

     Audience: Boy, does it ever.

Yada: You got to control it or get smothered by yeast. Same thing happens in creating the material world. All of it, galactic system, all of it. Whatever you may think about, the amount of matter, or energy in the universe or universes, relatively speaking, it is such a small amount that you could put it into a small container, perhaps a few inches or even one inch high. Think of that! You see, there is no space. There is but mind, which has neither depth, length, nor width and presents itself to sensory beings. as beings what you call real. A realness against the blackboard of unreal ness, but that realness is only sensory. Even if you take an instrument to make the measurements, you can only extend your ability to sense things.

Audience: Would you say that reality then would be the Light of one’s understanding?

Yada: I  would say that.

Audience: Therefore reality is a changing thing.

Yada: That is right. Constant – it cannot stop. The material world is a never ending process of destroying itself, from creating itself. That is its work. That is its nature. It can do no other.

     Question: How about love, Yada?

Yada: Love? Love is appreciation. Love is everything and everywhere. It is this thing, this condition, this feeling of the creation in the atom, in energy itself that forms a larger node called atom. Isn’t that smart?

That’s love holding everything together. It pulls things together. I think you call it magnetism That is a pretty word.

Let us suppose to show you the power of love or magnetism, you could put two bodies in space, many light years separated. In due time these two bodies will come together. Isn’t that in some way amazing? Isn’t that fascinating? Is this not exciting and thrilling? LOVE

Question: Then why are people afraid of love?

Yada: Because they have been conditioned to be afraid. All of mankind, wherever he exists, down to the jungles, in the ices of the poles, wherever, he is conditioned to be afraid. As a safeguard at first, to protect his physical existence, to know when to recognize the forces of life that could destroy him. This fear is driven to create a protection for himself in houses, igloos, and tents, in teepees, caves, under the ground. All nature as such threatens man’s existence until he becomes self-aware and knows how to protect himself.

Question: Yada, why is it that love can be so destructive?

Yada: Well, of course, you have the positive and the negative.

Question: How can we teach our children the difference?

Yada: Teach them to know what things are and other people are. Teach them first to respect themselves and respect their own possessions, whatever that may be. A friend may be a possession, and a very valuable one. It can be to another more precious than the most beautiful gems the world has to offer – that is a friend.

Audience: In an effort to tie all those points together, would it be reasonable to say that love is the force that expands awareness, thereby creating the change that produces reality?

Yada: Very nice. Very wonderful. So how can one person cause things? Some people try to hold friends – thereby losing them. This is because they do not know the true value of a friend, because they are not friends themselves. How long has your civilization been under the influence of the Christian religion?

     Man: One thousand years.

Yada: All right. Let us say that. Can you not see how it has poisoned your civilization with its fears? They have even a God to fear. You are told to fear God.

Question: Do you think Christ wanted that?

Yada: No. The man called Jesus, which his real name was Esus – he was a great adept. An adept is one who knows. A master, an avatar, and meaning he knew his life. Such a one never took credit for anything that happened around him: Your faith has made you whole. You did it yourself. Nothing is done until we – as individuals, do it ourselves.

Audience: He was teaching love. He was teaching truth. Then people came and changed it all around.

Yada: Of course. But he expected that because he knew where the majority of people stood, that they were still in their animal-consciousness. They could not do it differently. But he also knew that he could reach a few, who did understand and that these few would spread the light wider and wider. But man is not meant to be saved. Man at large, man en masse.

Saving is losing our ignorance and coming into understanding as the true nature of our being. There is nothing else to study but the true nature of our being. When we know that, we know everything that is necessary for us to know.

But the unknowing – I do not like the word ‘ignorant’ – even those who are sound asleep, even more so, but those of us who do not know, we are in the process of learning. Each person learns to the best of his ability. It may not seem so to me and to you, but he can do no other. So what is the point of calling him stupid. Whenever I call somebody stupid, I am calling myself that because I am recognizing my stupidity. Only I can do that.

We strive and we struggle. We wiggle like worms on the end of a pin, and most of the time we do not know from where the pain is coming. So, if we are hurt, we feel insulted that God is doing this to us. How can God do this to me? How? Then I say to myself: It could not happen to a better person, Yes, of course. When I know that I stop blaming forces. God is created by the ignorant. This God was useful to a great many at that time. But Gods must die, so must humans, so they can be born again with higher planes of awareness. So they can serve us better as we move to higher planes of awareness.

A man wanted to know if I ever saw Jesus Christ in my world. Now this man was talking from the level of his own understanding regarding bodies. I see a body, see it with the physical eyes and that this body is Jesus Christ. He believes, like so many have been taught to believe that Jesus and the Christ are the same. So it is easy for them to say that Jesus the Christ died on the cross. How could that happen? For both of these words are only words. Can words die? Yes. When he learns to find better ones.

But the Being, the Consciousness called Jesus the Christ, or Buddha, or any other of the great Beings of Light that appeared on earth to help man find himself, is not a body, is not a form. So how could he recognize Jesus the Christ? I could never do it by looking at a body. No more than you can recognize me. No more than you can recognize one another, just by looking at their body and calling it by name. Here is Mark Probert. Is this Mark Probert? Can it be? That is just a tag, a label put upon an unknown quality and we cannot know what is in the can, until we open it.

Oh, but I must if I am to find myself, if I am to get out of this dreadful nightmare I have created for myself. I must find some way of opening the can so I can see, not with these eyes, but with the inner eye. Physical eyes lead us into all kinds of misunderstanding, hallucinations. We cannot know, so we move like zombies, whose only awareness is pain and we wonder where all this pain is coming from. Who is hitting me? When we are afraid to open the can, we starve in the midst of plenty, starve to death.

Audience: Do you think that the can opening is “I can?”

Yada: “I can”, that is very good. Very good until we say to ourselves, we cannot open it. It is too difficult. It is too much work and anyway, I do not believe it is right for me to open it. God won’t love me.

Irene: I share a story that came out of our trip at the home in Carmel where we were staying. The seven year old took me into the hall and said: “I have to tell you something. My spring busted yesterday.” And I said: “Springs don’t bust. They go to sleep sometimes and then wake up. They play and work and stretch and go back together” I put my finger on his temple and he said: “No, that is not right. I will show you where it is.” And he put his finger right in the middle of my forehead and he said. “Right here. That’s what busted yesterday.” I asked him how that felt and he said: Oh, it was just a short headache but everything is all right now.”

Yada: That is a Master. You see, to be a Master you have to become one without knowing. The moment you recognize yourself as a Master – you are automatically a student only.

Audience: The more you know; the more you know how little you know.

Yada: Right. Exactly so. Now you see, you are going away from here tonight, as you have done in the past come and gone. Can you expect that you are going to have some magical formulary to take with you that will make you all wise? No, of course not Life is learned a little bit at a time and however little a person has, it is still the most, for knowledge and understanding does not count in quantities.

Have you ever heard of a bushel of knowledge? Or a quart? Many people believe that. That is why they talk about knowledge more than someone else. Most of what? I look into their cans and I cannot find more. No matter what you think about life, about yourself, about me, we all walk together. So I have learned there is only one thing to know – if we are truly to become awake – to know the light of love.

Many people in your modern times snear at that word, but not actually at the word, because they do not comprehend the word. It is only their idea of it. And if they have been beaten down, their measure of love has been beaten down with them.

We can take no step in safety until we learn to take it in love.

I am not weaving fairy stories. I am telling facts, very scientific facts. How many people in your world – in your America – die from lack of love. Think of that! I have no love, no appreciation. Every gesture I make is as though I make in a vacuum. After a time I cannot love myself. For I do not feel worthiness to love myself – so I die. I bring upon myself a sickness, or put my body in a position where it gets destroyed. And somebody will say – it was an accident. Not to the person who destroyed himself. He had lead him to a point where he is getting killed by his own feelings. They call this ‘accident-prone.’ Many people are that way. These accidents are not always out here somewhere. They go inside the body. They cause ruptures of some kind or another in the various glands in the body and somebody says: “They died of kidney failure or heart ailment, or lung ailment. He only died of one ailment: The hunger for love, for understanding, to feel wanted, to feel appreciated. Once we start into that negative vacuum, we get sucked deeper and deeper into it.

Audience: Yada, have you not said in the past that one really cannot be or feel wanted or appreciated or other things outside themselves, except only to the degree that one feels towards themselves?

Yada: Of course. How else? But you see everything starts within us. Then we project it by our attitude to it, where it seems to be real to us, solid to us. Concrete to us. I cannot receive love from another if I am rejecting it from myself.

In my hunt for this wonderful protective wall I take my paths. Sometimes I go down deep into a condition that you cannot imagine, because it is worse even, if that is possible than the Christian hell. It is harder. My anxiety about my being, my guilt eats at me, sticks me with sharp pitchfork of the little imps of darkness. Imps of darkness. It is a very good expression. The darkness of our ignorance is one way of looking at it. It is sad and those of us - who know better – must have compassion for those that we know – do  not know better. But we do know that in due course the most ignorant of us will find our way back home, will find the Light that will lead us. If there is any condition that can be called ‘hell’ – it exists in the individual. So it takes it with him, or he breaks down and finds his heaven.

People say to me: “Yada, where do you go when you leave Mark?” I return to myself. Perhaps some of you remember when I go away for a while from Mark – coming back – say: I return from whence I didn’t go. That is right. When you change your mind about something, you have gone beyond it. You have sealed it up in another point of your mind. You are going into a trance – like Mark now. What are you going to do in that state of consciousness? There is nothing to do but feel your being and your being is not a name.

It is a Light, a beautiful Light where we will rest until we are called out again to do something else.

The salmon does this. He goes out. He goes home to spawn, to make another body, so he can come out again. Everything returns to his center and then moves out from its center into ever widening spouts. Everything does this, including the galactic system. All things return to it.  Yada speaks in his language.

I wish to withdraw for a while. Thank you.
